This programme allows students to specialise in one of four different areas of human movement science, and to complement this with additional subjects such as business management, psychology or physiology, to suit their career plans. The four specialisation areas are: • Exercise science • Recreation • Sport management • Coaching science

Subjects requirements:

• Minimum NSC statutory requirements for degree entry must be met. • Mathematics – 45%, or Technical Mathematics, or Mathematical Literacy – 65%. • Candidates must pass a medical examination as required by the Department of Human Movement Science.

Career opportunities include teaching, school and professional sport coaching, exercise and fitness instruction, sport management and recreation. National, provincial and local government as well as institutions such as universities and police services employ sport and recreation specialists and managers. The rapidly-growing fitness industry needs professionals such as personal trainers, instructors, and gym managers. There are also opportunities in sports marketing and promotions, sports journalism or commentating.

BEd: Senior Phase and Further Education &Training (SP: Grades 7-9) (FET: Grades 10-12) NATURAL SCIENCE STREAM

The aim of the programme is to equip students with the knowledge, skills and values needed to effectively mediate learning in the field of Senior Phase and Further Education and Training, specialising in specific school subjects. Students will be expected to choose two FET specialisations and one related SP specialisation within the stream below. NATURAL SCIENCE STREAM: FET: Life Sciences, Physical Sciences*, Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy SP: Mathematics, Natural Sciences *Please note that students choosing to study Physical Science MUST choose Mathematics as their second FET specialisation. To specialise in Mathematical Literacy applicants must have taken Mathematics at school.
